Scar Therapy , also known as scar massage or ScarWork (TM), is a gentle, hands-on treatment for scar tissue, adhesions and fibrosis in the skin and underlying connective tissues. It works by stimulating the body's natural healing process to restore mobility, reduce discomfort, and help improve the appearance and feel of the scar.

How Scar Therapy Works

Stimulating Change
  • Scar Therapy uses light-touch and movements on and around the scar to stimulate change on the skin surface and underlying tissues. There is no forceful manipulation.

Improving Function and Movement
  • Many scars create adhesions between layers of skin, fascia, and muscle.
  • Scar Therapy helps by restoring glide and mobility between the layers helping to improve flexibility, function and movement.

Nervous System Reconnection
  • Scars often cause sensory change such as pain, numbness, tingling, hypersensitivity.
  • Scar Therapy helps the brain “re-map” the area through touch, restoring a healthier connection with the body.

Improving Circulation and Lymph Flow
  • Gentle manipulation promotes blood flow and lymphatic drainage, supporting tissue regeneration and reducing swelling or congestion.

A Safe Space for Acceptance
  • Empathetic and gentle touch to your scar in a safe space can help you find acceptance of your scar.
  • It may help you to feel more emotionally at ease.

 Improving Aesthetics
  • Scar Therapy will often promote aesthetic improvements by softening, flattening, and easing rigid or discoloured tissue.
  • Your scar won’t disappear. Results vary and early treatment is recommended for best aesthetic improvement.
Key Principles of Scar Therapy
  • Pain-free: No deep pressure or aggressive rubbing
  • Holistic: Treats not just the scar but the entire surrounding structure
  • Adaptable: Each scar is unique, and the treatment is customized
  • Whole-body effects: Improvements are often felt beyond just the scar area
